After learning from Sams sister that he doesnt plan on marrying again, Cassie takes a sojourn to Chicago to clear her head and meet with an old friend. When Sam finds out, he impulsively (and uncharacteristically) heads off to track her down. Meanwhile, the wedding planning has gotten out of control Michael and Vanessa are fed up with their overbearing mothers and decide to call the whole thing off. When cooler heads prevail and the town rallies together to pull off the lovely and simple ceremony the bride and groom desire, Sam and Cassie find themselves face-to-face with their own future. The whole town is caught up in romance when Cassie helps Ben find an old film for him to show an opening night of the refurbished Middleton Theater a classic romance from the 30s: How to Say, I Love You! which proves to be a meaningful title. Meanwhile, Martha has overextended herself with the town budget and there is no money left in the extra expenditure account, but when Grace discovers a long-forgotten benevolent fund she saves the day. When a visiting chef is unable to relax as she promised herself and instead wreaks havoc on the Grey House kitchen, Cassie arranges for her to spend a whole day at the stove stirring a special recipe to quiet her mind. Grace is presented with the Merriwick Wish Book for her birthday and encouraged to make an entry, and she learns a little more about what her mother and cousin were like when they were her age. The Middleton Merriwick is still not in bloom, and the effects are being felt around town especially with the Merriwick women. An old friend and colleague of Abigails checks into Grey House claiming to want a relationship with her, only Abigail discovers he is trying to deceive her into signing away her stake in the company they founded together. And with an assist from Cassie, Ben stumbles upon the old Middleton Theater and is motivated to get the place running again. Cassie discovers a Pavla, a 10-year-old girl, playing in the bushes at Grey House. She is hiding from her adoptive parents, Eddie and Marla, who could use a little help from Cassie and Abigail as they forge their new family. Meanwhile, Martha announces that her son Michael is getting married. He and his fiancée Vanessa want a simple wedding and Martha needs some gentle reminders from Cassie to not go overboard. Meanwhile, Sams sister Joanne shows up for an unexpected visit and he is very happy to see her, though she does not seem like herself. Cassie gives withdrawn, traveling artist Harrison Boyd a new paintbrush and invites him to stay at Grey House. The paintings he creates are of events that havent yet occurred but invariably come to fruition. He leaves Grey House appreciative and with his work complete but leaves behind a cryptic painting that features everyone behaving in curious ways. Cassie also arranges for her and Sam to organize the Tri-Cities Healthfest and Sam reluctantly agrees, though their contrasting styles are a bit of an obstacle. But they put Healthfest on hold when they discover many of their patients and customers are experiencing the same illness so Sam and Cassie work together to get to root of the problem. Abigail, jealous of all the attention Cassie gets from helping her customers, decides to sell special Venezuelan chocolates at her flower shop. When the chocolates are a hit and everyone in town seems in a better mood because of them, she cant help but continue to cut corners. Though Liams son Noah and Nick used to be friends, its clear when Noah arrives that Nick isnt interested in staying friends. Nick is telling Grace why, and suggests she stay away from Noah herself. And when Brandon and Tara decide theyre not going to fight anymore, a dinner at the Tinsdales changes their whole perspective.
